In 2024, our company successfully undertook theFrance Q ENERGY 320MW Solar PV Portfolio Project, a key renewable energy project in France consisting of 12 sub-projects spread across northern and central regions. The project adopts a portfolio development model, integrating conventional ground-mounted PV power stations, floating PV systems (built on local reservoirs and artificial lakes), and brownfield PV projects (redeveloped from abandoned industrial areas and mining sites). Driven by France’s CRE (Commission de Régulation de l’Énergie) tender mechanism, the project is part of the country’s national renewable energy strategy, aiming to expand clean energy capacity while addressing strict land constraints— a key challenge for PV development in France, where available land for large-scale single power stations is limited. As a professional wire export enterprise, we provided a complete, tailor-made wire export solution covering DC side, AC low-voltage side, medium-voltage side and energy storage system cables, effectively addressing the customer’s core pain points with European-standard certified products, flexible delivery services and reliable quality, thus becoming a benchmark case for PV wire exports in the French market.
Project Pain Points
Guided by France’s CRE tender mechanism, the project faced multiple critical challenges that directly affected its progress and investment returns. Firstly, the approval process for renewable energy projects in France is notoriously cumbersome, with the project’s 12 sub-projects taking an average of 18-24 months to obtain full approval, and grid connection queuing was slow due to tight local grid capacity— many completed sub-projects were unable to connect to the grid in a timely manner, resulting in idle assets and lost power generation revenue. Secondly, managing 12 simultaneous sub-projects with diverse scenarios (ground, floating, brownfield) proved complex: each sub-project had different technical requirements, leading to chaotic cable specifications, increased procurement and construction costs, and frequent delays. Thirdly, supply chain delivery risks were high: local French cable suppliers struggled to adapt to the project’s rolling construction rhythm, with long and unstable delivery cycles that often caused construction shutdowns due to material shortages. Fourthly, the diverse project scenarios demanded different cable performance: floating PV required cables with high waterproof and corrosion-resistant capabilities to withstand long-term immersion in water, brownfield projects needed cables resistant to mechanical impact and harsh terrain, and energy storage systems required high-current, flexible cables for compact installation spaces. Finally, the CRE mechanism imposed strict compliance standards— all cables had to meet European TÜV/EN standards, and any non-compliant products would lead to project acceptance failure and rework, adding significant costs and delays.
Core Products & Certifications
All our products for this project strictly comply with European standards (EN50620:2017 for PV cables, IEC 60502 for power cables), ensuring full compliance with CRE requirements and smooth project acceptance. The core product, H1Z2Z2-K Solar Cable (available in 1×4mm² and 1×6mm²), holds TÜV certification (Certificate No. B 126326 0001 Rev.00), a key credential for entering the French PV market. The 1×4mm² specification is the standard mainstream choice for most PV module string connections, ensuring stable power transmission in conventional ground-mounted and brownfield sub-projects. The 1×6mm² specification is specifically designed for long module strings and high-current designs, effectively reducing transmission losses in large-scale ground-mounted sub-projects with extended cable runs. Both specifications feature high-purity oxygen-free copper conductors and XLPO insulation, offering excellent UV resistance, weather resistance, and a working temperature range of -40℃~90℃, perfectly adapting to France’s variable outdoor climate.
Other core products include YJV cables (3×70mm² and 3×150mm²) for AC low-voltage transmission from inverters: the 3×70mm² is used for small and medium-sized inverters in brownfield and small ground-mounted sub-projects, while the 3×150mm² is tailored for large centralized inverters in large-scale ground-mounted sub-projects, ensuring high-efficiency power transmission with low losses. For medium-voltage step-up grid connection, we provided 20kV and 33kV XLPE medium-voltage cables (1×240mm² and 1×400mm²): the 1×240mm² is the most common collection line specification in French PV projects, suitable for most sub-projects’ collection and transmission needs, while the 1×400mm² is used for the main transmission lines of large-scale sub-projects, adapting to long-distance, high-power grid connection requirements. Additionally, flexible rubber cables (95mm²) were supplied for energy storage systems, specifically designed for short-distance, high-current connections between PCS and battery packs— their high flexibility allows easy installation in compact energy storage cabins, and the rubber sheath provides excellent waterproof and heat-dissipating performance, ensuring stable operation of the energy storage system.
