Manila Distributed Rooftop Solar Project
GERITEL
Apr 16,2026
In early 2024, we engaged with a major distributed PV EPC contractor in Manila developing a community-scale rooftop solar project covering 2,000+ residential units, alongside commercial rooftop energy storage systems.
The client's pain points were clear:
• The Philippines has a tropical monsoon climate with extreme heat, high humidity, and intense UV radiation, causing rapid aging of standard cables
• The project required both single-phase residential and three-phase commercial grid connections, creating complex cable specification needs
• Local utility Meralco enforces strict certification requirements for grid-connection cables; non-certified cables face rejection
• Tight construction schedule demanding first-batch cable delivery within 45 days
• Budget constraints without compromising safety and durability
The client's technical team initially considered local cable sourcing. However, testing revealed insulation layer embrittlement at 90°C operating temperatures and insufficient UV protection ratings, failing to meet the 25-year service life requirement. They needed a proven, high-reliability solution.
Product Selection Solution
Based on site surveys, we developed a customized cable configuration:
DC Main Cables (Modules to Inverters)
H1Z2Z2-K 1×6 mm² — This is the core product that must be highlighted.

Why this specification?
• Residential rooftop single-run distances typically 15-30 meters; 6mm² achieves optimal balance between voltage drop control and material cost
• Single-core design enables fast MC4 connector plug-and-play, reducing installation labor
• TUV certification (Certificate No.: R 50399473) ensures full compliance with IEC 62930 and EN 50618 standards
• Rated temperature range -40°C to +90°C, short-circuit temperature +120°C, fully covering Manila's year-round climate
For budget-sensitive or shorter-distance applications, PV1-F 1×4 mm² serves as an economical alternative.
AC Grid-Connection Cables (Inverters to Distribution Panels)
XLPE Power Cable 4×10 mm²
for small residential units
XLPE Power Cable 4×50 mm² / 4×95 mm² for commercial rooftops and energy storage systems
These cables utilize cross-linked polyethylene insulation with superior moisture resistance, ideal for Manila's high-humidity rainy season operations.
US Standard DC Cable Option (for Projects with US Technical Involvement)
PV Wire (UL 4703 Standard)
In the Philippine market, electrical codes reference the US National Electrical Code (NEC), so local engineers and contractors are familiar with the PV Wire naming convention. This cable features XLPE or XLPO insulation with dual-layer jacket construction, rated up to 2000V DC, UL 4703 certified, suitable for export projects requiring US standards or systems incorporating American equipment.
We provide both TUV-certified solar cables and UL 4703 PV Wire to meet diverse project technical specifications.
Grounding and Control Systems
H07V-K 1×2.5 mm² / 1×4 mm²
(yellow-green dual-color)
For energy storage battery connections and grounding protection, compliant with IEC 60227
Technical Specifications and Certification Advantages
H1Z2Z2-K 1×6 mm² Key Performance Parameters:
• Conductor material: Tinned copper (Class 5 flexible stranding) with superior oxidation resistance compared to standard copper
• Insulation: Cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO) with temperature ratings far exceeding standard PVC's 70°C limit
• Jacket construction: Dual-layer XLPE design with UV resistant properties for rooftop intense UV environments
• Rated voltage: DC 1500V / AC 1000V, meeting high-power module connection requirements
• Flame retardancy: IEC 60332-1 tested
• Expected service life: 25-30 years
PV Wire (UL 4703) Key Characteristics:
• Rated voltage options: 600V/1000V/2000V DC for different system voltage levels
• Continuous operating temperature 90°C, short-term tolerance up to 150°C
• Dual-layer insulation: Inner XLPE insulation, outer XLPO jacket with excellent UV and weather resistance
• Multiple certifications: UL 44 (RHH/RHW-2), UL 854 (USE-2)
• Compliant with NEC Article 690 photovoltaic system installation standards
Key Certification Documents:
• TUV Rheinland 2 PfG 1169/08.2007
• UL 4703 (US standard certification for projects with US technical involvement)
• IEC 62930:2014 compliance statement
These certifications are essential for entering high-end Philippine solar projects. Local utilities and fire departments rigorously verify cable certification completeness during project acceptance.

Project Execution and Delivery Assurance
Phase 1: Rapid Response (Week 1-2)
Complete technical proposal delivered within 48 hours of inquiry receipt. Upon client specification confirmation, Dongguan warehouse immediately prepared 50,000 meters of H1Z2Z2-K 1×6 mm² from stock. TUV certificate scans and third-party test reports provided for utility pre-approval submission.
Phase 2: Safety Assurance (Throughout Process)
• Pre-production: SGS composition testing of raw material copper rods
• Production: Online spark testing ensuring 100% electrical performance qualification
• Pre-shipment: Withstand voltage testing for every cable reel (AC 3.5kV/5min no breakdown)
• Packaging: Wooden drums with moisture-proof film, meeting Manila port shipping standards
Phase 3: On-Site Technical Support
Our engineering team deployed to the Cavite project site to guide local installation crews:
• Proper MC4 connector crimping techniques (preventing heat generation from loose connections)
• Optimized rooftop cable tray routing (minimizing UV exposure, extending system life)
• Assistance with Meralco grid-connection acceptance coordination
Phase 4: Delivery Results
The project successfully achieved grid-connection in Q3 2024. Client feedback indicated that arrays using H1Z2Z2-K cables reduced system efficiency losses by approximately 1.2% compared to同期 projects using standard PV wire. Over the 25-year lifecycle, this translates to approximately 180MWh of additional generation.
Differentiated Value Proposition
Our solution's core advantages manifest in three dimensions:
Certification Completeness: Offering both TUV and UL 4703 certification systems, not single local certifications. This proves critical during Philippine utility acceptance, especially for projects with US technical involvement or international financing requirements.
Materials and Craftsmanship: 99.95% oxygen-free copper conductors with 1.5μm tinning thickness ensure long-term reliability in high-corrosion coastal environments. Full SGS testing and online spark testing throughout production.
Delivery Certainty: Dongguan bonded warehouse maintains full H1Z2Z2-K specification inventory and PV Wire US standard series, with 45-day delivery including ocean freight. Philippine Peso or USD settlement supported; Form E certificates of origin available for customs clearance assistance.
Proven Track Record: Products validated in actual projects across Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand's high-corrosion coastal environments.
The client subsequently replicated this project model in two additional communities in Cebu and Davao, with ongoing cable supply to date.
