Mar 31,2026
In the first quarter of 2025, our team partnered with a leading seafood processing and cold storage enterprise in Chile, supporting their new facility construction and equipment upgrade projects in Pucón and the Los Lagos Region. As a key player in Chile’s seafood industry, the client operates two large-scale seafood processing plants and a high-capacity freezer warehouse—one located in Pucón, a city known for its proximity to abundant marine resources, and the other in the Los Lagos Region, a core area for Chile’s salmon and shellfish processing. The project required reliable, high-performance electrical wires to ensure the safe and efficient operation of processing equipment, refrigeration systems, and control panels, which directly impact product quality and production continuity. After evaluating multiple suppliers, the client chose our company for our UL certification, cost-effective pricing, and superior product quality, trusting us to solve their critical electrical challenges.
1. Unique Pain Points in Chile’s Seafood Industry
Chile’s seafood processing industry, especially in coastal regions like Pucón and Los Lagos, faces unique electrical challenges due to the harsh operating environment and strict industry regulations. The client’s new facilities were designed to handle large volumes of fresh seafood, with processing lines running 24/7 and freezer warehouses maintaining temperatures as low as -25°C. Their existing electrical system, which used non-certified, low-quality wires, had frequent issues that threatened production: frequent short circuits due to moisture and temperature fluctuations, equipment malfunctions caused by unstable power transmission, and failure to meet local electrical safety standards—putting them at risk of fines and production shutdowns.
The client’s core pain points were clear. First, they needed wires that could withstand extreme temperature variations, from the high humidity of processing areas to the ultra-low temperatures of freezers, without losing performance. Traditional thermoplastic wires often soften or age quickly in such environments, leading to frequent replacements and unplanned downtime. Second, local regulations in Chile require electrical products to meet international safety standards, and UL certification is a mandatory requirement for electrical components used in food processing facilities to ensure compliance and avoid legal risks. Third, as a growing enterprise, they needed cost-effective solutions that would not compromise quality—many suppliers offered either certified products at exorbitant prices or affordable wires without proper certification, leaving them in a dilemma.
Additionally, the client required wires with specific specifications to match their equipment: high-capacity wires for main power supply, flexible control cables for automated processing lines, and durable wires for wet and cold environments. After initial communication, our team realized that a one-size-fits-all solution would not work—we needed to tailor our product selection to their unique operational needs, focusing on three core wire types: XHHW, TW Wire, and Control Cables (including Type TC-ER and Type MC).
2. Selecting the Right Wires for Seafood Plant Operations
After conducting a detailed on-site assessment (via remote collaboration with the client’s engineering team) and analyzing their equipment specifications, we designed a customized solution that addressed each of their pain points, leveraging our UL-certified products and industry expertise. Here’s how each wire type was selected and why it was the optimal choice for their project:
First, for the main power supply lines in both processing plants and the freezer warehouse, we recommended XHHW wires, including the 1000 kcmil XHHW electric cable for high-load areas such as the main distribution panel and large refrigeration compressors. Unlike traditional THWN wires, which are thermoplastic and less durable in extreme conditions,XHHW wires feature cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation that can operate stably at 90°C in dry locations and 75°C in wet locations, with excellent resistance to moisture, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations. The 1000 kcmil size was specifically chosen for its high current-carrying capacity, capable of supporting the heavy electrical load of the client’s large-scale refrigeration systems and processing equipment without overheating—critical for avoiding production interruptions. Compared to other high-capacity wires, XHHW is also more flexible, making installation easier in tight spaces within the freezer warehouse and processing plant, and its sunlight-resistant and cold-bend properties (-40°C) ensure long-term performance in Chile’s coastal climate.

Second, for general-purpose wiring in non-high-load areas such as lighting, small motors, and auxiliary equipment, we selected TW Wire in sizes 12 AWG to 4 AWG. TW Wire is a thermoplastic-insulated wire with excellent moisture resistance, making it ideal for the humid environment of seafood processing plants where water and cleaning agents are frequently used. It is also cost-effective, allowing the client to reduce overall project costs without sacrificing quality. Unlike cheaper, non-certified wires, our TW Wire meets UL 83 standards, ensuring it can withstand the harsh conditions of the plant while complying with local regulations. Its flexibility and easy installation also helped speed up the project timeline, as the client’s team could quickly route the wires through conduit and cable trays.
Third, for the automated processing lines and control systems, we provided two types of Control Cables—Type TC-ER and Type MC—to ensure stable signal transmission and safe operation of the client’s automated equipment. The automated processing lines in seafood plants require precise control signals to regulate conveyor belts, sorting machines, and temperature control systems, so reliable control cables are essential to avoid equipment misoperation, which could lead to product waste or safety hazards.
Type TC-ER was selected for the main control lines connecting the central control room to the processing equipment on the production floor. Unlike standard Type TC cables, Type TC-ER features an exposed run-rated design, allowing it to be installed without conduit in areas where space is limited, such as along processing lines and under equipment. This not only reduced installation costs for the client but also improved flexibility, as the cable can be routed around tight corners without damaging the insulation. Additionally, Type TC-ER is rated for 90°C operation and has excellent resistance to oil, water, and chemicals—critical in seafood processing plants where cleaning agents and seafood residues are common. Its UL 1277 certification ensures it meets Chile’s safety standards, eliminating the risk of non-compliance fines.
For areas with higher electrical noise and potential physical damage, such as near large refrigeration compressors and heavy processing machinery, we recommended Type MC control cables. Type MC (Metal-Clad) cables feature a metal sheath that provides superior mechanical protection against impact, abrasion, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). In seafood plants, where large equipment generates significant EMI, this shielding prevents signal interference, ensuring the control system operates accurately and reliably. The metal sheath also acts as a ground, enhancing electrical safety and reducing the risk of short circuits caused by physical damage. We supplied Type MC cables in sizes 18 AWG to 10 AWG, tailored to the client’s control signal requirements, and all cables were UL 1569 certified, further reinforcing compliance and safety.
A key reason the client chose these two control cable types over others was their adaptability to the seafood plant’s harsh environment. Unlike non-shielded control cables, Type TC-ER and Type MC are designed to withstand moisture, chemicals, and physical stress, reducing the need for frequent replacements and maintenance. Additionally, our UL-certified cables ensured they met local regulations, while our competitive pricing made the solution more cost-effective than other suppliers who charged premium fees for certified control cables.
3. UL Certification as the Core Guarantee
For the client, compliance with local electrical safety standards and long-term operational safety were non-negotiable—this is where our UL certification became a key differentiator. All the wires we supplied, including XHHW, TW Wire, Type TC-ER, and Type MC, are fully UL certified, meeting the strict requirements of UL 83 (for TW Wire), UL 44 (for XHHW), UL 1277 (for Type TC-ER), and UL 1569 (for Type MC). This certification not only ensured the client’s facilities complied with Chile’s electrical regulations but also guaranteed that the wires would perform safely and reliably in the harsh seafood processing environment.
To further enhance safety, our team provided detailed technical documentation for each wire type, including installation guidelines, temperature ratings, and maintenance recommendations, helping the client’s engineering team install and use the products correctly. We also conducted remote training sessions to educate their staff on how to identify potential issues with the electrical system, reducing the risk of accidents and unplanned downtime. Unlike other suppliers who only provided basic product information, we offered comprehensive support to ensure the client could maximize the performance and safety of our wires.
4. On-Time, On-Spec, and Stress-Free
One of the client’s concerns was timely delivery, as any delay in the supply of wires would hold up the construction and upgrade of their facilities, leading to lost production time and revenue. We addressed this by optimizing our supply chain and production schedule, ensuring all wires were manufactured, tested, and shipped within the agreed 6-week timeline. The 1000 kcmil XHHW electric cable, which required custom manufacturing due to its large size, was prioritized in our production line to avoid delays, and we provided real-time updates to the client on the production and shipping status.
All products were carefully packaged to withstand long-distance shipping from China to Chile, with moisture-proof and shock-proof packaging to prevent damage during transit. Upon arrival at the client’s facilities in Pucón and the Los Lagos Region, our team coordinated with local logistics partners to ensure timely delivery to each site, and we conducted a joint inspection with the client to verify that all wires matched the ordered specifications—including size, quantity, and certification documentation. This seamless delivery process eliminated the client’s worries about supply chain disruptions and allowed them to proceed with their project on schedule.
5. Improved Efficiency, Reduced Costs, and Long-Term Reliability
Since the installation of our UL-certified wires, the client’s seafood processing plants and freezer warehouse have experienced significant improvements in operational efficiency and safety. The XHHW wires, including the1000 kcmil XHHW electric cable, have maintained stable performance in extreme temperature conditions, with no short circuits or overheating issues, ensuring the 24/7 operation of refrigeration systems and processing equipment. The TW Wire has proven durable in humid environments, with no signs of aging or damage after months of use, reducing maintenance costs and unplanned downtime.
The Type TC-ER and Type MC control cables have ensured precise signal transmission, reducing equipment misoperation by 90% and minimizing product waste. The client has also avoided potential fines for non-compliance, thanks to our UL-certified products, and their overall electrical system maintenance costs have been reduced by 35% compared to their previous non-certified wires.
