Cameroon Government Complex Renovation Project
GERITEL
Apr 11,2026
Early in 2023, our team at Dongguan GERITEL Electrical Co., Ltd. received a phone call from West Africa. On the line was a project manager from an international engineering contractor who had just secured a major government infrastructure renovation tender in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The project involved comprehensive electrical system overhauls across multiple administrative office buildings, conference centers, and supporting facilities in the nation's capital.
"We need 450,000 meters of cable, delivered in three phases, all products must carry IEC certification, and the main installation must be completed before the rainy season hits," the project manager stated with characteristic directness and urgency.
The scale was exhilarating: total cable requirements equivalent to filling four 40-foot high-cube containers, spanning the full product range from lighting circuits to high-voltage main power distribution. Yet the challenges were equally formidable—Cameroon's tropical climate, aggressive project timelines, stringent quality certification requirements, and limited on-site storage capacity. Every single element represented a potential project failure point.
Deep Diagnosis: Three Core Anxieties
Our technical team flew to Yaoundé and spent three days conducting site surveys and requirement workshops with the project's electrical engineers. Through this immersion, the client's genuine pain points emerged—far more complex than simply "buying cable."
First Anxiety: The Crisis of Quality Consistency
The client candidly shared their nightmare experiences from other African projects, where batch-to-batch cable quality variations had plagued their installations. The same specifications from different production batches showed noticeable fluctuations in conductor resistance and insulation thickness, forcing installation teams to repeatedly adjust construction methods and causing months of schedule delays. For a government project, any delay translates to political risk and substantial penalty payments.
Second Anxiety: The Dilemma of Certification Authenticity
Counterfeit and substandard electrical products flood African markets. The client had previously received forged CE certificates, only discovering during site inspections that insulation materials failed to meet basic flame retardancy standards. "We don't just need a piece of paper—we need traceable, verifiable compliance assurance," the project director emphasized. "This concerns the safe operation of this building for decades."
Third Anxiety: The Logistics Coordination Challenge
Located in central Yaoundé, the project site offered limited storage space, making single-batch delivery impossible. Yet cable supply had to synchronize precisely with civil construction progress—early arrival would create stacking chaos and damage risks, while late arrival would force work crews into costly standby mode. The client needed a supply chain partner capable of phased, precision delivery aligned with their construction rhythm.
Customized Solutions: From Product Sales to Engineered Solutions
Based on our site surveys, our engineers recognized that simply providing standard products would not satisfy this project's demands. We needed to design a comprehensive cable application strategy tailored to this specific installation.
Internal Power Distribution: Layered Precision Design
For office areas, conference rooms, and administrative zones, we implemented a three-tier design strategy.
Fixed Wiring Layer: For circuits within walls and ceiling cavities, we recommended H07V-U single-core solid conductor cables ranging from 1.5mm² to 25mm², totaling 145,000 meters. The solid conductor construction excels in conduit installations, offering stable conductor resistance and reliable connections. For areas requiring moderate bending flexibility, we supplied H07V-R stranded conductor versions totaling 40,000 meters.
Equipment Connection Layer: For distribution panel outgoing circuits and mechanical equipment connections requiring installation flexibility, we provided H07V-K fine-stranded conductor cables in 2.5mm² and 4mm² specifications, totaling 42,000 meters. The Class 5 ultra-fine stranding withstands repeated flexing without conductor fatigue failure.
Control and Low-Voltage Layer: This represented our most intricate design challenge. Building automation systems, fire protection controls, and security monitoring circuits demanded cables with exceptional flexibility, signal integrity, and mechanical durability. We finalized on H03VV-F and H05VV-F flexible cable series.
Particularly noteworthy was our application of H05VV-F cable 3×6mm². For HVAC control cabinet and high-power distribution unit connections, the client initially considered rigid cables to reduce costs. However, our technical team conducted on-site operational analysis demonstrating that these control cabinets require regular maintenance access. Cables between cabinet doors and enclosures must possess sufficient flexibility to prevent insulation cracking from long-term bending stress.
The H05VV-F cable 3×6mm² carries a 300/500V rating, employs Class 5 ultra-fine stranded copper conductors, and uses high-grade PVC for both insulation and sheathing. This configuration satisfies the current-carrying capacity requirements of 6mm² conductors (approximately 41 amperes) while offering superior bending life. The client accepted our recommendation, and we supplied 28,000 meters of H05VV-F series cables spanning 3×1.5mm², 3×2.5mm², 3×4mm², and 3×6mm², plus multi-core variants for three-phase control circuits.

External Power Distribution: Heavy-Duty Performance and Protection
For main power distribution from grid connection points to building main distribution rooms, plus outdoor auxiliary buildings and generator room circuits, we developed a two-tier approach.
High-Voltage Feeders: We supplied YJV cross-linked polyethylene insulated non-armored high-voltage cables, customized to load calculation specifications, totaling 35,000 meters. XLPE insulation materials maintain excellent electrical performance and chemical corrosion resistance at 90°C continuous operating temperatures, ideal for underground conduit installations.
Outdoor Distribution: For sections requiring direct burial or overhead installation with mechanical damage risks, we supplied SWA steel wire armored cables. The galvanized steel wire braiding provides mechanical protection while serving as an earth conductor, simplifying installation complexity.
Our SWA cable supply encompassed: 15,000 meters of 4×240mm² for main distribution feeders; 12,000 meters of 4×300mm² for high-capacity building supplies; and 8,000 meters of 4×400mm² for primary transformer connections.
Quality Foundation: Certification Systems and Process Control
During our proposal presentation, the client's quality director posed a pointed question: "How do you prove your cables actually comply with IEC standards, rather than just the certificates complying?"
Our response rested on a three-tier control system.
Tier One: Raw Material Traceability
All copper conductors utilize high-purity oxygen-free copper rods. Insulation materials come from RoHS-certified suppliers. Every raw material batch undergoes incoming inspection for conductor resistivity, insulation tensile strength, and other critical indicators. Non-conforming batches are returned in their entirety.
Tier Two: Process Monitoring
Production lines feature online diameter measurement and high-voltage testing equipment, monitoring insulation eccentricity and withstand voltage levels in real-time. Our factory maintains ISO 9001 quality management system certification, with production records retained for at least ten years, ensuring any cable reel can be traced to specific production shifts, raw material batches, and quality inspectors.
Tier Three: Third-Party Verification
Beyond factory self-inspection, we commission SGS and other third-party testing organizations for type testing, including electrical performance testing per
IEC 60227 and single vertical flame propagation testing per IEC 60332-1-2. All testing reports are provided as originals with shipments, with certificate numbers verifiable on issuing authority websites.
Specifically addressing Cameroon's tropical climate, we enhanced moisture resistance testing beyond standard IEC requirements, ensuring cables maintain insulation resistance above 1000 MΩ/km even in 95% relative humidity environments.
Delivery Execution: A Three-Phase Race Against Time
March 2023 saw the first shipment depart our Dongguan facility. This was a precision gamble against time itself.
Phase One: Demolition and Pre-installation (March 2023)
We supplied 120,000 meters of
H07V-U series and SWA main cables, supporting post-demolition conduit replacement and underground pre-installation work. We coordinated with freight forwarders in advance to ensure priority customs clearance at Douala port, achieving 72-hour delivery from port arrival to site receipt.
Phase Two: Main Installation (May 2023)
We delivered control and flexible cables, including the complete
H05VV-F series. With on-site storage at saturation, we implemented a "weekly rolling plan," confirming next week's delivery schedule based on construction progress each week, achieving continuous supply with zero inventory pressure.
Phase Three: Completion and Commissioning (August 2023)
We supplied high-voltage cables and small quantities of additional specifications based on field measurements. At this stage, the client requested an urgent change: due to design adjustments, they needed an additional 5,000 meters of
H05VV-F 3×6mm² cable within two weeks. We activated emergency production scheduling, delivering from order to site in just ten days, ensuring the project commissioning schedule remained on track.
Field Stories: Trials Beyond the Plan
True partnership value emerges during unexpected challenges.
Story One: The Late-Night Bending Radius Consultation
One night in June 2023, the client's site engineer called with urgency: a section of SWA 4×400mm² cable showed slight sheath deformation at a bend, raising safety concerns. Our technical director immediately conducted video consultation, guiding measurement of the bending radius and confirming the actual radius exceeded 15 times the cable outer diameter (compliant with IEC standards). We explained the stress relief characteristics of the armoring layer, eliminating site concerns and avoiding unnecessary rework.
Story Two: Rainy Season Moisture Verification
September 2023 brought Cameroon's rainy season. The client worried about cable moisture for materials temporarily stored under outdoor covering. We provided detailed storage guidelines and dispatched engineers for on-site inspection assistance. Sampling inspection revealed that even in high-humidity conditions, cable insulation resistance remained above 1000 MΩ/km, far exceeding standard requirements and validating our moisture-resistant design.
Story Three: The Zero-Waste Goal
At project completion, client statistics showed actual cable usage varied from our recommended cutting lengths by less than 3%, significantly below the industry average 8-10% wastage rate. This saved material costs and reduced environmental burden from waste disposal.
Results Verification: The Numbers Speak
December 2023 brought final project acceptance. Key results included:
For H07V-U cables ranging from 1.5mm² to 25mm², we supplied 145,000 meters for lighting and power fixed wiring applications. The H07V-R series from 2.5mm² to 10mm² accounted for 40,000 meters serving fixed circuits requiring moderate bending. H07V-K in 2.5mm² and 4mm² specifications totaled 42,000 meters for equipment connections and distribution panel outgoing circuits.
The H05VV-F series, spanning from 3×1.5mm² through 3×6mm², reached 28,000 meters for HVAC controls and high-power equipment connections. H03VV-F cables in multiple specifications contributed 15,000 meters for low-voltage control and signal transmission. YJV high-voltage cables customized to design specifications totaled 35,000 meters for main power distribution. SWA armored cables in 4×240mm², 4×300mm², and 4×400mm² specifications accounted for 35,000 meters for outdoor distribution and mechanical protection.
Total: 450,000 meters of cable. Zero batch quality disputes. Zero delivery delays. Zero safety incidents.
