El Salvador Fire Station Renovation
GERITEL
Mar 30,2026
In the second quarter of 2023, our company established a successful partnership with the Fire Department of San Salvador Department, El Salvador, to provide a full set of electrical wire solutions for the renovation of Fire Station 1 and Fire Station 3. As a key project under El Salvador’s 2023-2024 capital improvement program for fire-fighting facilities, this renovation aimed to upgrade the aging electrical systems of the two stations, ensuring stable and safe power supply for fire-fighting equipment, living quarters, and control systems.
1. Project Background & Customer Pain Points
Fire Station 1 and Fire Station 3 in San Salvador Department have been in service for over 20 years, and their electrical systems had become severely outdated. A 2019 facility assessment report highlighted critical issues: the original electrical wires suffered from insulation aging, poor water resistance, and insufficient load capacity, failing to support modern fire-fighting equipment such as thermal imaging cameras, high-pressure fire pumps, and 24-hour emergency lighting systems. Worse, the original wires lacked valid UL certification—a mandatory requirement for electrical products in El Salvador, as the country adheres to North American safety standards for public safety facilities. This posed a major safety risk for stations that must operate uninterrupted around the clock, as electrical failures could delay emergency responses and endanger both firefighters and the public.
The customer’s core goal was clear: find a trustworthy wire supplier that could deliver UL-certified products, complete specifications, reasonable prices, and on-time delivery to avoid delaying the overall renovation timeline. Before partnering with us, they had contacted three other suppliers but faced three unresolvable pain points. First, most suppliers could not provide valid UL 44 and UL 758 certifications, leading their products to fail local safety inspections. Second, product ranges were incomplete, requiring cooperation with multiple suppliers—this increased coordination costs and delivery risks, as delays from one supplier would hold up the entire project. Third, the quoted prices were 15-20% higher than the project budget, making it impossible to proceed with the renovation within the allocated funds. Additionally, the customer expressed concerns about after-sales support, as they needed guidance on product installation to ensure compatibility with existing equipment.
Upon learning of these pain points, our team assigned a dedicated project manager to communicate with the customer directly. We conducted detailed consultations to understand the specific requirements: the power demand of each piece of equipment, the installation environment (including dry control rooms and humid equipment rooms), and the strict 12-week construction timeline. We assured the customer that we could provide a one-stop solution—UL-certified products, complete specifications, competitive pricing, and on-site technical support—to address all their challenges.
2. Tailored Solution: Product Selection & Advantage Analysis
Based on the renovation needs of the two fire stations, we selected three core wire products to form a complete electrical support system, with two key cable types (control and power) tailored to the site’s harsh environment: the XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire (the core power transmission wire), and two integrated cable solutions—Type TC-ER (Tray Cable - Exposed Run) and Type TC (Tray Cable), which serve both control and power transmission needs. Each product was chosen to directly solve the customer’s pain points, with clear advantages over alternative options.
The XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire was selected as the core power transmission wire for its superior performance compared to common alternatives like THHN/THWN wires. Unlike THHN wires, which use PVC insulation and can only operate stably at 75°C in wet environments, the XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire uses cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, allowing it to work stably at 90°C in both dry and wet conditions—critical for the fire stations’ humid equipment rooms. It also boasts excellent water and cold resistance, adapting to El Salvador’s temperature range of -40°C to 35°C without aging or cracking, extending its service life to over 30 years. The stranded conductor design makes it more flexible, easy to install in narrow spaces like walls and ceilings, reducing construction time and labor costs. We provided three specifications of XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire: 12 AWG for emergency lighting, 10 AWG for fire pumps, and 8 AWG for control system power supply, ensuring stable and efficient power transmission.

To meet both control and power transmission needs of the fire stations, we supplied two key integrated cable types: Type TC-ER (Tray Cable - Exposed Run) and Type TC (Tray Cable), which are versatile enough to serve both systems. These cables are designed to adapt to the fire stations’ harsh working environment, ensuring stable power supply for large equipment (such as fire trucks and high-pressure fire pumps) and reliable signal transmission for control systems (such as fire alarms and linkage control devices). Type TC-ER is typically used for wiring in cable trays or open cable systems, with a certain ability to resist mechanical damage and environmental influences; it can be directly exposed to the outside, making it suitable for the fire stations’ exposed areas. Type TC is ideal for installation in cable trays, offering high flexibility and mechanical strength that meets the needs of both industrial control systems and large-equipment power supply. Both cables have high load-bearing capacity, supporting large current transmission without overheating, and their flame-retardant, low-smoke halogen-free insulation layer reduces smoke and toxic gas emissions in case of fire—protecting firefighters’ safety. They also have strong corrosion resistance, adapting to the humid environment of the equipment rooms and avoiding damage from moisture buildup.
3. Safety Guarantee: UL Certification & Strict Quality Control
The primary reason the customer chose us was our complete UL certification— a key requirement for electrical products entering Central American markets. UL certification strictly tests product safety, quality, and performance, and all our products for this project—including the XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire, and our two integrated cable types (Type TC-ER and Type TC)—have passed UL 44 and UL 758 certifications, fully complying with El Salvador’s local safety standards. We provided the customer with complete certification documents, ensuring the products passed local safety inspections without delay—a problem that had derailed their previous supplier negotiations.
In addition to certification, we implemented strict quality control procedures to ensure product stability. Before delivery, each batch of wires underwent rigorous testing: insulation resistance testing, voltage resistance testing (3.0kV for 1 minute for 12-10 AWG XHHW-2 wires), and flame-retardant performance testing. We also conducted a pre-delivery inspection with the customer’s representative, providing detailed test reports to confirm product quality. This strict quality control ensured zero defective products were delivered, avoiding construction delays caused by substandard wires.
4. Delivery Execution & On-Site Support
To meet the customer’s 12-week construction timeline, we optimized our production and logistics processes. We prioritized the production of the XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire and other core products, completing production within 4 weeks. For logistics, we partnered with a reliable international shipping company specializing in electrical product exports to Central America, ensuring the goods arrived at the San Salvador port within 3 weeks. We also handled all customs clearance procedures, providing complete documentation (including UL certificates, product specifications, and export declarations) to avoid delays at the border.
Upon delivery, we sent two technical engineers to the project site to provide on-site support. They guided the construction team on the installation of the XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire and our two integrated cable types (Type TC-ER and Type TC), ensuring correct wiring and compatibility with existing equipment—especially guiding the team on the proper installation of TC-ER (for exposed areas) and TC (for cable tray installation) based on their different characteristics, as both serve dual control and power functions. They also answered questions about product maintenance and provided a training session for the fire station’s maintenance staff, helping them properly care for the new electrical system. This on-site support eliminated the customer’s concerns about installation and after-sales service, further strengthening their trust in our company.
5. Project Results & Customer Feedback
With our comprehensive solution, the renovation project of Fire Station 1 and Fire Station 3 was completed on schedule in 12 weeks. The new electrical system, powered by our XHHW-2 stranded electric cable wire and two integrated cable types (Type TC-ER andType TC) that serve both control and power needs, operates stably 24 hours a day, meeting the power and signal transmission needs of all modern fire-fighting equipment.
