Belize San Ignacio Residential Renovation & New Construction
GERITEL
Mar 30,2026
In 2023, we partnered with a local construction firm in San Ignacio, Belize, to support a key residential project that combined the renovation of old dwellings and the construction of new housing units. As a professional wire exporter with UL certification, we successfully solved the client’s core pain points by providing high-quality, cost-effective, and comprehensive wire solutions, includingXHHW-2, THHN, and AC cables, ensuring the project’s smooth progress and long-term electrical safety. This case highlights how our professional strength and product advantages helped the client overcome challenges in the Belizean residential construction industry.
1. Challenges in Wiring for Renovation & New Construction
The project, located in San Ignacio, a rapidly developing city in western Belize, aimed to upgrade the local residential environment by renovating 15 old residential buildings (built in the 1990s) and constructing 20 new low-rise residential units. The client, a well-known local construction company, faced multiple dilemmas at the start of the project. First, the old residential buildings had outdated electrical wiring, most of which lacked formal certification and had serious aging problems—insulation layers were brittle, conductors were oxidized, and the wire specifications failed to meet modern residential electricity demand, posing significant safety hazards. Second, the new housing units required wires that could adapt to Belize’s tropical climate, with strong moisture resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance, while complying with local electrical standards that require UL-certified products. Third, the client needed a one-stop wire solution to avoid delays caused by purchasing from multiple suppliers, and the budget was limited, requiring products that balanced quality and cost.
2. Matching Products to Project Scenarios
After in-depth communication with the client, we fully understood their needs and pain points, and customized a targeted wire solution. The core of the solution was to match the right wire products to different scenarios of the project, while leveraging our UL certification advantage to ensure compliance and safety. For the renovation of old residential buildings, we recommended THHN cables, which are widely used in indoor wiring due to their excellent flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Unlike ordinary PVC wires, THHN cables have a thermoplastic PVC insulation layer and a nylon sheath, which is not only wear-resistant and easy to thread through pipes but also has a rated temperature of 90°C in dry environments, perfectly adapting to the indoor environment of old buildings after renovation. We provided THHN cables in multiple specifications, including 12 AWG, 14 AWG, and 16 AWG, to meet the needs of lighting, sockets, and small household appliances in different rooms.
3. XHHW-2 & THHN: Key Choices for New & Renovated Housing
For the new housing units, especially the outdoor wiring and wet areas such as balconies and bathrooms, we recommended XHHW-2 cables, which are superior in moisture resistance and heat resistance. The XHHW-2 cable flexible conductor type uses cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, which can maintain stable performance at 90°C in both dry and wet environments, far exceeding the performance of ordinary wires that can only withstand 60°C in wet environments. Compared with THHN cables, XHHW-2 cables have a thicker and more durable insulation layer, better resistance to moisture and chemical corrosion, making them suitable for outdoor and wet area wiring in Belize’s tropical rainy climate. We provided XHHW-2 cables in 8 AWG, 10 AWG, and 12 AWG, mainly used for main power supply lines and outdoor lighting circuits of new housing units.
4. MC Cables & MV105: Supporting the Community’s Power Distribution System
In addition, for the power distribution system of the entire residential community, we provided AC cables (armored cables) that meet UL 4 and UL 83 standards. The AC cables have a galvanized steel interlocking armor layer, which can effectively protect the internal conductors from mechanical damage and external interference, ensuring the stability of the power supply system. The MC cables we provided have a rated voltage of 600V, with 16 AWG aluminum bonding wires and copper green grounding conductors, which not only meet the power distribution needs of the residential community but also enhance the safety of the entire electrical system. We also supplemented MV105 cables in 1/0 AWG and 2/0 AWG for the main power input of the community, further improving the comprehensiveness of the solution.
5. UL Certification as the Core Advantage
Safety guarantee is the core of this project, and our UL certification has become the key to gaining the client’s trust. All our wires, including XHHW-2, THHN, and AC cables, have passed strict UL certification, complying with UL 44 (thermoset insulated wires), UL 83 (thermoplastic insulated wires and cables), and other related standards. According to UL Solutions’ certification requirements, our wires have undergone rigorous component testing and material analysis, ensuring no harmful substances and meeting RoHS standards, which not only meets Belize’s local electrical safety regulations but also guarantees the long-term safety and stability of the project. Unlike uncertified wires on the market, our products have clear quality assurance, avoiding safety hazards such as short circuits and fires caused by substandard materials.

6. Ensuring On-Time & Smooth Project Progress
In terms of delivery and execution, we fully considered the project schedule and the logistics characteristics of Belize. The client required all wires to be delivered within 30 days to avoid delaying the construction progress. We optimized the production and logistics process, completed the production of all wires within 20 days, and cooperated with professional international logistics companies to arrange sea transportation. We also provided detailed product manuals and certification documents, including UL certification reports and product specification sheets, to help the client complete the customs clearance process smoothly. During the construction process, we sent professional technical personnel to communicate with the client’s construction team online, guiding the correct installation of wires and solving potential problems in a timely manner, ensuring that the wiring work was consistent with the project requirements.
7. Project Results & Client Recognition
The project was successfully completed in December 2023, achieving remarkable results. The renovated old residential buildings have eliminated electrical safety hazards, with stable power supply and improved living comfort; the new housing units have perfect electrical systems, with wires that can adapt to local climate conditions, ensuring long-term reliable use. The client highly recognized our solutions—our wires not only met the safety and compliance requirements but also saved 15% of the wire procurement cost compared with local suppliers, thanks to our direct supply model and cost control advantages. In addition, the comprehensive product range enabled the client to purchase all required wires from us, reducing the time and cost of multi-supplier coordination.
8. Cooperation Value & Future Outlook
