In the first quarter of 2025, Dongguan GERITEL Electrical Co., Ltd. successfully completed the wire supply for the Saint Kitts and Nevis Solar Power Project, a key renewable energy project in the Caribbean region. Located in Basseterre, the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis, this large-scale grid-connected solar power plant with a total installed capacity of 15MW aims to reduce the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels and promote the development of clean energy. As the exclusive wire supplier for this project, we provided a full set of high-quality wires, including XHHW Wire, THHN Wire, THWN Wire, MC Cable, and TC-ER Cable, which perfectly solved the core pain points of the project party and won high recognition. This case details our full-service process, product advantages and cooperation value, showing how we help overseas solar projects achieve efficient and safe operation with professional strength.
The Caribbean Solar Mission: Our First Encounter with the Project’s Dilemma
Saint Kitts and Nevis is a small island country in the Caribbean with abundant solar energy resources, but its power supply system is relatively backward, with most of its electricity relying on imported oil. In response to the global call for carbon neutrality and to reduce energy costs, the local government launched this 15MW grid-connected solar power project, one of the largest renewable energy projects in the country. Covering an area of 30 acres, the project is equipped with more than 40,000 solar panels, and the wires used need to adapt to the local tropical marine climate—high temperature, high humidity, strong ultraviolet radiation, and frequent salt spray erosion, which puts extremely high requirements on the corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and durability of the wires.
Before cooperating with us, the project party encountered many difficulties in selecting wire suppliers. First of all, the local electrical standards are in line with North American standards, requiring all wires to have UL certification, but most suppliers in the market could not provide valid UL certificates, which would lead to the risk of the project being shut down due to non-compliance with local regulations. Secondly, the project had a tight construction period, requiring all wires to be delivered within 45 days, and many suppliers could not meet the delivery time due to backward production capacity. In addition, the samples provided by a previous supplier had problems such as insulation layer cracking and conductor oxidation during the local marine environment test, which made the project party extremely worried about the quality and service life of the wires. At the same time, the project party needed not just a simple product seller, but a partner with experience in undertaking large-scale solar projects who could provide professional product selection guidance and after-sales support.
After many rounds of comparison and investigation, the project party finally chose Dongguan GERITEL Electrical Co., Ltd. because of our complete UL certification, rich experience in undertaking solar projects, reliable product quality and fast delivery capacity. Our team quickly communicated with the project party to deeply understand the specific needs of each link of the project and tailor a targeted wire supply solution.
Tailoring the Solution: Matching Wires to the Caribbean’s Unique Challenges
Combined with the tropical marine climate of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the technical requirements of the solar power project and the pain points of the project party, we selected five types of wires that are most suitable for the project, each with a clear focus and accurately adapting to the usage scenarios of the Caribbean tropical marine environment:
The XHHW Wire we provided is available in sizes 12 AWG to 4/0 AWG, with a rated voltage of 600V and a rated temperature of 90°C. Adopting cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, it has excellent high temperature resistance and moisture resistance, and can adapt to the local high temperature and high humidity environment. Compared with ordinary PVC-insulated wires, the XHHW Wire has a thicker insulation layer, stronger wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and can be directly buried without casing, which greatly reduces the construction cost and construction period. It is mainly used for the main power transmission line of the project, connecting the solar panel array to the inverter and distribution cabinet;
THHN Wire (14 AWG to 2 AWG) adopts PVC insulation and nylon sheath, which is flexible and easy to thread, suitable for indoor wiring of distribution cabinets and control rooms; THWN Wire (14 AWG to 3/0 AWG) is optimized on the basis of THHN Wire, with better moisture resistance and corrosion resistance. In particular, the THWN copper wire corrosion resistant performance is particularly outstanding—it uses tinned copper conductors, which can effectively resist the corrosion of salt spray and humid air, avoiding conductor oxidation and increased contact resistance caused by the marine climate. Passing the strict salt spray test, its service life in the marine environment can reach more than 25 years, far longer than the industry average of 15 years, and it is suitable for outdoor humid environments such as the connection between solar panels and junction boxes;

MC Cable (12/2 AWG to 4/3 AWG) has a rated voltage of 600V. As a metal-clad cable, it is composed of copper conductors, XLPE insulation and galvanized steel strip sheath, with excellent mechanical protection performance, which can resist mechanical damage such as extrusion and impact during construction, and is also flame-retardant and moisture-proof. Used for outdoor equipment wiring (such as the connection between inverters and transformers), it does not require additional casing, improving construction efficiency;
TC-ER Cable (10 AWG to 4/0 AWG) is a type of tray cable with excellent flexibility and oil resistance, suitable for installation in cable trays, and can be used for power transmission of large-scale equipment in solar power plants, such as the connection between the main distribution cabinet and the sub-distribution cabinet. With good bending performance, it is convenient for installation in narrow spaces, and its insulation layer is oil-resistant and chemical corrosion-resistant, which can adapt to the complex environment of the power plant. Compared with ordinary tray cables, our TC-ER Cable has higher current-carrying capacity, which can meet the high-power transmission needs of solar power projects, and has a longer service life, reducing later maintenance costs.
Building Trust: How Our Certifications and Quality Won the Project
Safety is the core requirement of solar power projects, and our company has always prioritized product safety and quality. The biggest advantage that distinguishes us from other suppliers is that all wires provided for this project have passed UL certification (UL 83 standard), which is recognized and accepted by the local authorities of Saint Kitts and Nevis. UL certification is a strict quality assurance process formulated by Underwriters Laboratories, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification services, verifying that our wires meet the relevant safety, performance and durability standards. This means that our products fully comply with local electrical regulations, avoiding the risk of project shutdown due to non-compliance, which is also the key reason why the project party chose us.
In addition to UL certification, we have two other core advantages: a professional technical team and a strict quality control system. Our technical team has more than 10 years of experience in the wire industry and has undertaken more than 50 large-scale solar power projects at home and abroad, including many key projects in Southeast Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. We can provide professional product selection guidance according to the specific environment and technical requirements of the project, and solve various technical problems encountered during the construction process for the project party. In terms of quality control, we have established a full-process quality inspection system. From the purchase of raw materials to the production, processing and delivery of products, each link is strictly inspected. For example, the copper conductors we use are made of high-purity electrolytic copper with a purity of more than 99.97%, ensuring good electrical conductivity; the insulation materials are imported from well-known manufacturers and have passed strict environmental protection and performance tests. Before delivery, all wires will undergo multiple tests such as insulation resistance, voltage resistance and corrosion resistance to ensure that each roll of wire meets quality requirements.
Racing Against Time: Delivering Wires Ahead of Schedule to Keep the Project On Track
The project party required all wires to be delivered within 45 days, which was a great test for our production capacity and logistics efficiency. After receiving the order, we immediately formulated a detailed production plan, adjusted the production line, and arranged special personnel to supervise the production progress to ensure that each type of wire was produced on schedule. At the same time, we set up a special logistics team to communicate with international logistics companies in advance, formulate the most efficient transportation plan, and choose fast ocean shipping to ensure that the goods arrived at the port of Saint Kitts and Nevis on time.
In the process of delivery, we also provided professional supporting services. We sorted and packaged each type of wire according to the project’s construction progress and usage scenarios, and affixed clear labels indicating the wire model, size, quantity and usage area, which facilitated the project party’s acceptance and use. In addition, we provided detailed product manuals and installation guidelines, and sent technical personnel to the project site to provide on-site guidance on wire installation, helping the project party solve installation problems and ensuring the smooth progress of the project. Finally, we completed the delivery of all wires 3 days in advance, laying a solid foundation for the early commissioning of the project.
