In early 2025, our team partnered with a key engineering contractor for the Bolivia Ogrand Virtual Gas Pipeline Project, a landmark infrastructure initiative aimed at expanding natural gas access to remote communities in the Ogrand region. As a critical part of the project’s electrical system, the contractor needed high-quality, certified wires that could withstand harsh outdoor conditions, meet strict international safety standards, and fit within a tight budget and timeline. After evaluating multiple suppliers, they chose Dongguan GERITEL Electrical Co., Ltd. for our proven experience in large-scale energy projects, UL certification, competitive pricing, and reliable delivery capabilities. This case details how we addressed the client’s core pain points and delivered tailored wire solutions that ensured the project’s smooth progress.
1. Challenges in Bolivia’s Virtual Gas Pipeline Construction
The Bolivia Ogrand Virtual Gas Pipeline Project, located in the Santa Cruz de la Sierra region of Bolivia, is a large-scale energy infrastructure project launched in early 2025. It consists of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant, cryogenic transport fleets, and mobile regasification stations, designed to supply clean natural gas to over 140,000 households across 27 local communities that are far from traditional gas networks. The electrical system of this virtual gas pipeline is the backbone of its operation, requiring wires that can adapt to Bolivia’s complex climate—including high humidity, temperature fluctuations, and occasional extreme weather—and meet the strict safety requirements of energy infrastructure projects.
The client, a leading engineering firm undertaking the project’s construction, faced several critical pain points that threatened to delay the project and increase costs. First, they struggled to find suppliers that could provide wires with valid UL certification, a mandatory requirement for electrical components in Bolivia’s energy sector to ensure operational safety. Many potential suppliers either lacked this certification or offered products with questionable quality that failed to meet international standards. Second, the project required multiple types of wires for different applications, and the client needed a single supplier that could provide a full range of products to avoid logistical complications. Third, Bolivia’s status as a landlocked country posed significant logistics challenges—goods must be transshipped through neighboring countries like Chile, which increases delivery time and risk of delays. Finally, the client had a tight budget and needed cost-competitive solutions without compromising on quality or certification.
2. Choosing the Right Wires for the Project
After in-depth communication with the client, our team analyzed their specific needs and designed a comprehensive wire solution that included three core products: THHW Wire, SIS Cable, and Control Cables (Type TC-ER). Each product was selected for its unique advantages, tailored to the project’s specific application scenarios, and we clearly explained to the client why these products were superior to alternatives.
First, we recommended THHW Wire for the project’s outdoor and underground electrical wiring. THHW Wire features thermoplastic PVC insulation, making it suitable for both dry and wet environments, with an operating temperature of 90°C in dry locations and 75°C in wet conditions. Unlike ordinary PVC wires, THHW Wire has strong waterproof and UV resistance, which is critical for Bolivia’s humid and sun-exposed outdoor areas. We provided THHW Wire in sizes 12 AWG to 4/0 AWG, which covered the project’s power transmission needs for different sections of the virtual gas pipeline. Compared to THHN Wire (which has a nylon jacket but is more suitable for dry indoor environments), THHW Wire’s single-layer PVC insulation is simpler in structure but more durable in humid and underground settings, making it the ideal choice for outdoor power trunk lines and underground laying in this project.

Second, we supplied SIS Cable (Stranded Insulated Switchboard Wire) for the project’s control cabinets and automation systems. SIS Cable is specifically designed for high-density, high-temperature industrial environments, featuring stranded annealed copper conductors for flexibility and XLPE insulation that can withstand long-term operation at 90°C. We provided SIS Cable in sizes 14 AWG and 12 AWG, which are perfect for connecting circuit breakers, relays, and PLCs in the project’s control panels. Unlike standard control wires, SIS Cable has thinner insulation (while maintaining high dielectric strength) and passes the VW-1 vertical flame test, ensuring flame resistance in dense wiring environments. This made it far more suitable than ordinary PVC control wires, which lack the heat resistance and flame retardancy needed for industrial control systems.
Third, we selected Control Cables (Type TC-ER) for the project’s tray and outdoor control wiring. Type TC-ER Cable is a 600V power and control tray cable with stranded copper conductors, PVC/nylon insulation, and an overall heat, moisture, and sunlight resistant PVC jacket. We provided Type TC-ER Cable in sizes 14 AWG to 10 AWG, with 2 to 12 conductors per cable, to meet the project’s control signal transmission needs. Compared to Type MC Cable (which is metal-clad and more suitable for harsh industrial environments with high mechanical damage risk), Type TC-ER Cable is lighter, more flexible, and more cost-effective, while still meeting the project’s requirements for outdoor use and resistance to moisture and sunlight. This choice helped the client reduce costs without sacrificing performance.
Additionally, we included THHN copper building wire 600V in our solution for the project’s indoor electrical wiring in the LNG plant and regasification stations. This wire features a double-layer structure of PVC insulation and a nylon jacket, providing excellent mechanical strength, oil resistance, and corrosion resistance—ideal for indoor industrial environments. It operates at 90°C in dry locations and meets UL 83 and ASTM B566 standards, ensuring compatibility with the project’s other electrical components.
3. UL Certification and Quality Control as Core Advantages
For the Bolivia Ogrand Virtual Gas Pipeline Project, safety was non-negotiable—and our UL certification was a key factor in the client’s decision to choose us. All our wires, including THHW Wire, SIS Cable, Control Cables (Type TC-ER), and THHN copper building wire 600V, are fully UL certified, complying with both international standards and Bolivia’s local energy sector regulations. This certification meant the client could avoid the risk of project delays or safety hazards caused by non-compliant products, as UL-certified wires undergo rigorous testing for electrical performance, flame resistance, and durability.
Beyond certification, we implemented strict quality control throughout the production process to ensure consistency and reliability. We use high-quality raw materials—including 99.99% pure copper conductors and high-grade PVC/XLPE insulation—to ensure our wires have excellent electrical conductivity and long service life. Each batch of wires undergoes comprehensive testing, including insulation resistance testing, voltage withstand testing, and flame resistance testing, before leaving our factory. We also provided the client with detailed test reports and certification documents, giving them full confidence in the quality of our products.
Our experience in similar large-scale energy projects also gave the client peace of mind. We have previously supplied wires for virtual gas pipeline and LNG plant projects in South America, understanding the unique challenges of these projects—including climate adaptability, logistics, and local regulatory requirements. This experience allowed us to anticipate potential issues and provide proactive solutions, reducing the client’s workload and risk.
4. Overcoming Logistics Challenges to Meet Deadlines
One of the client’s biggest concerns was logistics—Bolivia’s landlocked location and complex customs procedures can easily cause delivery delays, which would impact the project’s timeline. To address this, we developed a detailed logistics plan tailored to Bolivia’s unique situation.
First, we partnered with a professional freight forwarder with extensive experience in shipping to Bolivia, ensuring that our products were transshipped through Chile’s ports efficiently. We handled all necessary documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certification documents, to avoid customs delays caused by missing or incorrect paperwork—a common issue in Bolivian imports. Second, we scheduled production in advance to ensure all wires were ready for shipment by the client’s deadline. We produced the THHW Wire, SIS Cable, Control Cables (Type TC-ER), and THHN copper building wire 600V in batches, prioritizing the wires needed for the project’s early stages to avoid delays in on-site construction.
Additionally, we provided real-time shipment tracking to the client, allowing them to monitor the progress of their order at every stage. When unexpected weather conditions caused a minor delay in transshipment, we proactively communicated with the client and adjusted the delivery schedule, ensuring that the delay did not impact the project’s construction timeline. In the end, all wires were delivered to the project site in Bolivia within 30 days of shipment—meeting the client’s tight deadline and avoiding any project delays.
5. Reliable Performance and Mutual Success
Since the wires were installed in the Bolivia Ogrand Virtual Gas Pipeline Project, they have performed flawlessly under the region’s harsh conditions. The THHW Wire has maintained stable performance in outdoor and underground environments, with no signs of insulation damage or electrical failure despite high humidity and temperature fluctuations. The SIS Cable has ensured smooth operation of the project’s control systems, providing reliable signal transmission and withstanding the high temperatures inside control cabinets. The Control Cables (Type TC-ER) have performed well in outdoor tray wiring, resisting moisture and sunlight damage. The THHN copper building wire 600V has provided safe and efficient indoor power distribution in the LNG plant and regasification stations.
The client was extremely satisfied with our solutions, as we not only met all their technical and certification requirements but also helped them reduce costs and avoid project delays. Our cost-competitive pricing allowed the client to stay within their budget, while our UL certification and quality control ensured the project’s long-term safety and reliability.
