In 2022, we partnered with a coffee processing plant in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, to support its large-scale expansion project. As a key link in the local coffee industry chain, the plant needed to upgrade its production lines, expand processing capacity, and ensure stable and safe power supply for the new equipment. 1. Urgent Demand for Reliable Wires in Coffee Plant Expansion
Matagalpa, known as Nicaragua’s "coffee capital," boasts fertile soil and a suitable climate, making it a core production area for high-quality coffee. In 2022, the local coffee processing plant decided to carry out an expansion project to meet the growing global demand for Nicaraguan coffee, which involved adding new sorting, roasting, and packaging equipment, as well as expanding the plant area. However, the project soon encountered a major challenge: the lack of suitable wires that could adapt to the local environment and meet the high-power equipment’s operational needs.
The customer’s pain points were obvious. First, Nicaragua’s electricity sector has long faced issues such as insufficient effective capacity and high dependence on oil power generation, leading to unstable voltage supply in some areas. The new coffee processing equipment requires stable power transmission, and ordinary wires are prone to overheating or short circuits under unstable voltage, which would affect production efficiency and even cause safety hazards. Second, the coffee processing plant has high humidity in some areas (such as the washing and soaking workshops) and high temperature in the roasting area, so the wires need to have strong resistance to humidity, high temperature, and corrosion. Third, the customer hoped to control the project cost while ensuring quality, and many wire suppliers they contacted either could not meet the environmental adaptation requirements or offered prices that exceeded the budget. In addition, the customer lacked professional knowledge of wire selection and needed a supplier who could provide professional advice and customized solutions.
2. Matching Wires to Project Needs Precisely
After learning about the customer’s needs and pain points, our professional team conducted in-depth research on the project’s actual conditions, including the plant’s layout, equipment power requirements, environmental characteristics (humidity, temperature, corrosion), and local electrical standards. Based on this, we recommended a combination of three types of wires, each with clear positioning and unique advantages, perfectly solving the customer’s problems.
First, we recommended XHHW-2 cable for the main power supply lines of the plant, especially the XHHW-2 cable wet dry rated wire for areas with high humidity and alternating dry-wet environments (such as the washing workshop and outdoor power distribution area). Different from ordinary wires, the XHHW-2 cable adopts silane cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, which has excellent moisture resistance, heat resistance, and abrasion resistance, and can operate stably at a maximum temperature of 90°C in both wet and dry locations. We provided XHHW-2 cable in sizes ranging from 6 AWG to 750 kcmil, matching the power needs of different equipment, and its compact stranded 8000 series aluminum alloy conductor ensures low resistance and stable power transmission, effectively avoiding voltage drop and overheating problems caused by unstable power supply. Compared with traditional PVC-insulated wires, XHHW-2 cable has better aging resistance and a longer service life, which can reduce the later maintenance cost of the plant.
Second, we selected MC cable (Metal-Clad Cable) for the power supply lines of high-power equipment such as roasting machines and sorting machines. The MC cable we provided adopts AA-8000 series aluminum alloy conductor, XHHW-2 insulation core, and bare aluminum alloy ground wire, with an outer layer of aluminum interlocked armor. This structure makes the MC cable lightweight (45% lighter than steel tape armored cables) and easy to install, which can reduce the installation cost by 50% compared with traditional pipeline installation. We provided MC cable in sizes such as 1/0 AWG, 2/0 AWG, and 350 kcmil, which meet the UL 44 and UL 1569 standards, and can withstand high temperature and mechanical impact, making it suitable for the harsh working environment of high-power equipment in coffee processing plants. Compared with ordinary power cables, MC cable has better flame retardancy and anti-interference performance, which can effectively prevent safety accidents such as fires caused by equipment short circuits.

Third, we configured AC cable for the plant’s auxiliary power supply lines, such as lighting, control systems, and small auxiliary equipment. The AC cable we provided is designed for alternating current transmission, with bidirectional current flow, which is more suitable for the operation needs of ordinary electrical equipment in the plant. We selected AC cable with 1350-H19 aluminum stranded conductor, which has good conductivity and flexibility, and can be easily laid in narrow spaces such as the gaps between equipment. The AC cable is available in sizes from 12 AWG to 35 AWG, which is cost-effective and can effectively control the overall project cost while meeting the power supply needs of auxiliary equipment. Compared with DC cables, AC cable is more suitable for long-distance power distribution in the plant, with higher transmission efficiency and lower energy loss.
